The John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation held the Black and White Ball on Nov. 7 at the Mariposa Fairgrounds. This annual fund raising event was again, very successful. Even with the current down economy, attendance was better than expected, and donations from local businesses, organizations, artisans, and individuals were very generous this year.

“A Night on the Orient Express” was the theme, and under Marge Tifft’s decorating guidance and help by foundation supporters, Building A was transformed into an elegant setting reminiscent of a trip across Europe by train on the glamorous Orient Express at the turn of the century. With Les Marsden as emcee, music by The Smooth Jazz Ensemble, a terrific meal that was based on the same menu as the maiden trip of the Express, prepared and served by Yosemite Catering, made the evening enchanting and enjoyable.

Much gratitude to the ball sponsors Sierra Rural Physicians, Mercy Ambulance, Yosemite Bank, Merced Imaging, San Joaquin Drug, Foster True Value, Dr. Robert Horvat, and Dr. Sunit Patel.

Thanks to all who attended, and to so many others who contributed items, and to those who committed time and energy in presenting the ball. Know that your contributions to the hospital foundation are helping to make our hospital and our community health care stronger.
Ruth Shane, chairperson
Foundation Board of Directors
