Intoxicated driver injures herself and son

A woman alleged to be under the influence crashed her truck into a tree on Nov. 13, injuring herself and her 12-year-old son. The crash happened around 11:45 a.m. on Highway 140, just west of Mt. Bullion Cutoff.

According to California Highway Patrol officer Adrian Perez, 43-year-old Nora Snell was driving her 2003 Ford truck east bound on Highway 140 when she failed to negotiate a curve in the road. She lost control, crossing the road and traveling down an embankment, where the truck hit a tree.

Snell had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken by air ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Modesto for treatment of numerous rib fractures and neck pain. The 12-year-old was taken to John C. Fremont Hospital for treatment of pain to his left shoulder, cuts to his forehead, arms and stomach.

The driver will be charged with felony driving under the influence, causing injury; and there is an enhancement because Snell’s passenger was under age 14. She will also be charged with child endangerment. Perez said toxicology tests will show if Snell was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
