Falanys host annual Thanksgiving Dinner

In the tradition of the nation's forefathers, like the Pilgrims and Puritans that landed at Cape Cod in the 1600s, local Pastors Henry and Grace Falany and their family, annually open their home and hearts to the community on Thanksgiving Day.

Pastor Henry was actually born in Boston and is the grandson of John Winthrop, the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Falanys have continued this tradition here in Mariposa for more than 20 years.

Pastor Henry said, "There are several great Thanksgiving events in this community that share the spirit for the season with those that need it. But this is not an event as much as it is an actual family get-together in a home on Thanksgiving Day."

The Falanys welcome one and all, young or old, rich or poor, to a full traditional turkey dinner, plus ham and roasted duck, with all the trimmings. There is no charge for the dinner and according to Pastor Henry, there are no strings attached.

“We just want to be sure that everyone has a place to enjoy this festive holiday in a loving home atmosphere on the holiday itself,” Falany said.

The Falany’s home is located a short distance from Mariposa at 4283 Ashworth Road.

The meal will be served at 1 p.m. and will begin with a short devotional and blessing.

The Falanys would like everyone to arrive by noon, but they are welcome to come earlier. The home fires will be burning, plus good fellowship, football on TV, and more.

Anyone planning to attend should call and RSVP a few days before Thanksgiving Day so the Falanys can plan for plenty of food. They can be contacted at the Mariposa Revival Church at 966-5090.
