4-H honors members’ achievement
On Oct. 17, Mariposa County 4-H held its annual Achievement Night at the New Life Christian Fellowship gym. The theme was “4-H Goes Hawaiian.”
Achievement Night is an evening where members and leaders receive their year stripes, pins and special awards.

The clubs show off members’ awards that they have won during the year by decorating a table that goes along with the evening’s theme. The tables were judged by Ruth Catalan and Maxwell Norton, interim county director. They selected the Triangle 4-H Club’s table. A perpetual plaque, sponsored by the former Clover Pioneers 4-H Club, was presented to several of the club members.
A newest competition was the best window display contest during National 4-H Week. The winner in this contest was the Cathey’s Valley 4-H Club. A perpetual plaque will have their club’s name engraved.
Donna Wice, 4-H coordinator, presented the 2009 Outstanding 4-H Leader award to Beth Broomfield. Broomfield has been a leader for the past nine years and the Camp Tweety director since 2001. Broomfield is a project leader for archery, rocketry, co-leader for Hi 4-H and helps with the jewelry project. She has attended the statewide 4-H leader’s forum and camping conference as well. She was presented a 4-H sleeping bag and a volunteer mug full of candy.
4-H members nominate 4-H leaders for the Outstanding New Leader award. The winner for this past 4-H year was Deni Smith. She received a 4-H planner and volunteer mug full of candy.
The Achievement Night committee worked to make it a special evening. Debbie Andre and Kathie Hollan cooked the dinner, and the families brought a salad or dessert. Morgan Tramontin, one of the horse project members, sang the National Anthem.
