Couple Monday night’s slaying of Waterford’s Wildcats by Mariposa’s Lady Grizzlies with Le Grand’s convincing win over third place Turlock Christian earlier this week, and you have the perfect fomula for a showdown in Mariposa next Monday evening.
If the Lady Grizzlies tagged another loss on Turlock Christian Wednesday afternoon, they would play Le Grand on Monday for the Southern Athletic League crown. Both teams would enter the match with identical 1-loss league records, and Monday’s clash would be the third in their 3-game series. Each team has won at home.
“We’re taking it one game at a time and looking to the future,” said head coach Debbie Leonard. “We’re playing strong as a team and believing in ourselves. Next week’s game should be a great one.”
Mariposa downed the Wildcats in straight sets, 25-12, 25-9, and 25-8.
Senior Morgan Foley paced the Lady Grizzlies with 8 digs and 8 kills. Alina Parga posted 10 digs, 2 kills and a block, while Patricia Schellentrager had 5 spikes, and Brook Barrett added 7 digs. Khrissy Schellentrager registered 2 blocks, and 4 kills, and Martha Bertand added 3 kills in the winning effort. Emily Darcy led the assists list with 12, and Brooke Earling added 6.
Last Wednesday at Denair, Mariposa swept through the Coyotes, 25- 12, 25-20, and 25-11.
Foley again led the offensive attack with 8 kills and 7 digs. Defensively, Barrett had 16 digs and Parga added 12. Khrissy Schellentrager posted 7 kills, and her older sister, Patricia, had 20 assists.
