Master Gardeners host miseltoe workshop
Mariposa County Master Gardeners Association will be hosting a public workshop presented by the USDA Forest Service, in cooperation with the University of California’s Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program covering Mistletoe and Bark Beetle Management on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location will be Stag Hall, 2884 Bear Valley Road.
Speakers will include Beverly Buloan and Joel Fagan, Entomologists for the USDA Forest Service and Martin MacKenzie, Plant Pathologist for the USDA Forest Service, among others.
Covered in this presentation will be the topics of mistletoe and bark beetle biology, general identification, healthy versus damaged trees, what constitutes a pest problem in broadleaf specimens and native oaks of the foothills, broadleaf mistletoe in city limits and management practices for mistletoe and bark beetles.
There is no charge for the workshop. To register call 966-2417 or come by the University of California Cooperative Extension office, located at 5009 Fairgrounds Road, Mariposa. Space is limited.
