Sex offender violates parole, goes to jail

A Mariposa County man recently released from prison has been jailed again on a felony parole violation. Keith Edwin Sharp, 59, was picked up at the First Baptist Church construction site on Sept. 8. He is being held without bail in the Mariposa County Jail.

Local law enforcement officials had little information about the circumstances of the violation. Undersheriff Doug Binnewies confirmed that local deputies made the arrest at the request of Sharp’s parole officer in Madera. The only infor- mation Binnewies had was that Sharp “was somewhere he shouldn’t be.”

Sharp pleaded no contest to two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 on Oct. 5, 2006. He was sentenced to three years in state prison in January, 2007. He served nearly his entire term before being released on parole

Sharp is a former employee. of the Mariposa County Unified School District.
