Air quality fails the test
Friday, May 09, 2008 By Jill Ballinger - Gazette Editor "Mariposa: Above the fog and below the snow," was a catch phrase around here for years. Well, apparently the county is not above the smog of the Central Valley. The American Lung Association (ALA) released a report on May 1 that gives Mariposa County a failing grade in regard to air quality, a fact that surprises many who come here to escape the oppressive smog of lower lands.

The FFA Forestry Team won the Forestry State FFA Contest at Cal Poly on Saturday. Christian Cummings was the first high individual. Adam Covington was second high, Cody Peterson was fourth high, and Will Chase was fifth high. They will represent California at the National Forestry Contest in October at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. Board member Eldon Henderson was not present at the May 6 meeting.
