Open letter

To the Mariposa County Chamber of Commerce:

Please tell me why the Chamber of Commerce's current audit still has not been made public. It was promised to be released and as far as I know it hasn't yet been released. It was due to the county in January. It's now August.

Signage issue

It has come to my attention again, the signage issue. I’ve lived in Mariposa for almost 50 years, with very few complaints.

Now everywhere I go in this county there are real estate signs on every corner - each and every corner within the confines of the road way.

I know I’m not alone discussing this issue. It needs to be addressed.

Another great thing about Mariposa

I have lived in Mariposa a little over a year, and I am finding out things almost daily that are really great reasons for living here. I had a total knee replacement at Mercy Hospital in Merced. After five days, I was asked where I would like to go for rehab. Mariposa, I replied.

The Lord's Boot Camp

When I first got to Florida, it was about 2 a.m. When we arrived at the “Lord’s Boot Camp,” it was about 3 a.m. We unloaded all of our stuff and took it into the chapel. We stayed there for the night. We only got about two and a half hours of sleep. We had to wake up at 5:30 a.m. and take all of our bags over to the big top area. We met our team members there.

                    By Richard Rider

When it comes to gathering sufficient property taxes, Prop. 13 is no problem at all -- except for profligate spenders. Look at the history of our San Diego County -- a history that pretty much reflects the history of property taxes in the urban/suburban counties that hold over 90 percent of California's population.
