Bloodless coup

The local Kiwanis Club is not following the right and just path.

A seemingly bloodless coup is occurring right here in our very own town of Mariposa. The last time I experienced a coup d’etat was on Dec. 24, 1999, in the Ivory Coast. You often hear about coups in Africa. You don’t often hear about coups in America and certainly not in Mariposa, but I beg to differ.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Sonny Lawhon in the recent obituary column of the MARIPOSA GAZETTE. I worked with Sonny for almost 30 years in Yosemite National Park.

Grounds to sue?

I have lived on Usona Road for over nine years. While numerous roads have been paved or repaved throughout the county, one mile of Usona has been left out of the loop. Every summer it’s been dust, and every winter it’s been muddy mush.

At the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors meeting of Dec. 13, 2011, and Jan. 3 and 12 and at the public town hall meeting on Jan. 9, Supervisor Kevin Cann has done his very best to alert rural property owners in Mariposa County that the California Assembly Bill 29X is very close to imposing S.R.A. (State Responsibility Areas) fees on each rural property owner in California.

I’m sure the majority of people who live in a State Responsibility Area (SRA) don’t know about this possible tax hike. Thank you for bringing this issue up.

I, like many other people, can’t afford anymore taxes. The majority of CAL FIRE employees do not agree with this issue and cannot afford it.
