Appeals court upholds gay marriage

A federal appeals court today ruled California's same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional, upholding a federal judge's landmark ruling in a case likely destined for the U.S. Supreme Court.

The decision, by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, is a major lift for gay-rights advocates in a nationally-watched case.

After a lengthy and thorough recruiting process, the John C. Fremont Healthcare District Hospital Board of Directors has signed a contract with David Hill as the district’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO.)

Hill will begin at John C. Fremont Healthcare District the week of Feb. 20, a few weeks before the district implements electronic health records.

New legislation could reverse the threat to school bus transportation in Mariposa and all other California counties. After a mid-year cut wiped out much of the district’s funding, state legislators are pushing a new bill to restore transportation money.

Mariposa County is part of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) plan to fund some $347 million worth of road projects. The projects include $1.14 million for Mariposa County to rehabilitate a portion of Mt. Bullion Cutoff.
